How Does Email Marketing Work?

Email Marketing Services and Email Service Providers (ESP) are two names that are used for the service of providing email marketing. This type of service has been around for well over a decade. Viper Mailer applies knowledge and technology to an otherwise un-traceable delivery method, utilized by all.

SPAM (unsolicited messages that you did not ask for or want) costs us all as these are messages that we all have to endure now, since the public has been involved on the Internet. Almost everyone that has an email account can understand the frustrations of unsolicited email messages.

When Did SPAM Begin?

The event that began SPAM, as we know it today, was sent out over 30 years ago on Saturday, May 3, 1978. Ironically, to us at Viper Logic, this also marks our annual founding date which started on May 3, 1993. At the bottom of this article is the history and documented first SPAM message ever sent, coining that sender as the Father of SPAM.

Viper Logic Has a SPAM Relationship

On May 3, 1993, we started in business at Viper Logic. We are half as old as SPAM. We find this bazaar and coincidental, because we are also an email marketing company.
What else keeps Viper Mailer SPAM-FREE is through our tight relationships with major Internet Service Providers (ISP) that help us maintain a reputation of keeping our selection of clients that we allow to use our email marketing service very tight and tested. These relationships benefit our clients by keeping their email lists clean and white listed so that messages get through to all of their intended recipients and email accounts.

Having an Opt-In Email Contact List

The email contacts that you have in your computer from clients and friends are not what you want to use to build your contact list, because these are people that you socialize with or that you do business with. They did not agree to receive emails from you about unsolicited offers, so sending unsolicited email to them would really be considered SPAM. You can, however, contact them and receive their permission to send them updates on your company, products, or special offers from time to time and then add them to your Opt-In email contact list. You can quickly build an Opt-In list of email contacts through your phone conversations, events, through your local Chamber, meetings, and your industry association groups.

Email Marketing Education and Help

We have written in great detail the legal ways of gathering your email contacts effectively, in as short as a few days to two weeks, allowing you to collect as many as 200 to 1000 or even more contact to be a part of your Email List.

Email Marketing is Compliant with the CANN-SPAM Act 2003

Our email marketing is not SPAM because of the feature incorporated into each message. When you use an Email Marketing Service provider, such as Viper Mailer, there must be a single click link function built into each message so that a recipient can choose to Opt Out. When a recipient clicks on the removal or Opt-Out request, the contact removal process goes directly into your managed list and your Email Marketing Provider removes their email address immediately.

Meet the Father of SPAM

History of SPAM and SPAM’s Beginning

Over 30 years ago from Saturday May 3, 2008, was the date that SPAM began. The lucky man that invented SPAM was Gary Thuerk, and the company was Digital Equipment Corp (a very large computer company that is now-defunct). Gary was trying to sell computers, and he would hold open houses to do so. At the time, 30 years ago, there were only 2,600 email addresses on the Internet (WOW! has that grown).

Gary sent the offer for people to join him at an open house to 400 recipients out of the 2600 total email accounts in the world. It was successful. Through this approach, over a period of time, Digital Equipment Corp sold 12 million dollars worth of computers.

Gary Thuerk was made famous for this because, like today, the phone began to ring with outrage and major complaints. You see back then it was illegal to sell anything directly to these email account holders, and the government had very strict rules about the way you could use the Internet as an email communications tool.

Although, the method was affective, today, there are better ways of going about sharing what you have to offer, while still allowing recipients to maintain their privacy and preferences. Viper Mailer can help you to achieve just that.
